ACTIVITES NEAR Onda beach house

beaches, restaurants, reef tours, day spa’s, shopping, kayaking, golf etc

Walk 400m up the beach or along the concrete path (10min), to bustling Palm Cove: international resorts for shopping and restaurants. A 10 minute walk around the corner takes you to Clifton Beach shopping mall with a large Coles, fresh food, butcher, doctor, chemist and several restaurants, dine in and take away.

Arrangements can be made, for golfer’s with a handicap, to use the owner’s set of golf clubs at nearby Paradise Palms.

Nearby dining is found at Clifton Bar & Grill at 14 Clifton Road or 59 Restaurant & Bar in Clifton Beach with Sensational panoramic views overlooking the 9th and 18th greens at Paradise Palms Gold Course International standard golf course rated 10th in Australia with an A la Carte, Restaurant, and closer still the Cairns Zoo and night Zoo.

Thirty Five Minutes north on the Highway is Port Douglas. or drive 10 minutes south to Tjapukai, Skyrail or Go Carting. Ten minutes further to Freshwater you can take the Scenic Rwy to Kuranda, or continue down to Cairns for shopping and the night markets.

The Northern Beaches of Cairns are a fabulous place full of tourist activities and natural beauty. Seriously.

Try shopping at Palm Cove and don’t forget the day spas.

There are many restaurant choices in Palm Cove and nearby. Definitely go to L’Unico at Trinity Beach and have the BBQ seafood.

Check out The Yacht club at Yorkeys Knob on Monday nights for a great feed at 2 for 1 prices, (bring a local).

The markets on Sunday at Port are a great day out. On the way up stop at the Lookout or Thalia Resort for a coffee. Or the Croc Farm at Hartley. We like going to Port for a day trip then on to the Daintree for the afternoon, do a river cruise looking for crocs, then get an icecream at the factory and a barra burger.

The Zoo at Port is pretty good but Cairns Zoo is just up the road from us – its actually very good. As an alternative try the Night Zoo, its a BBQ with beer and wine, singing, dancing a zoo walk through nocturnals and then billy tea and damper around a bonfire in the Kangaroo enclosure.

The Northern beaches give you the option of running up to Kuranda or down to Cairns for Movies, night shopping or the DFO if its wet. Its only a 25 min drive to Cairns.

The Go Cart track north of Cairns is a great thing too. Skyrail is good but so is the Scenic Railway and the Aboriginal theme park and theatre next door to Skyrail.

Then there’s always Atherton tableland.

Youngenburra is worth a visit to see the platypusses, a great old pub and the whacky Swiss restaurant if you’re staying for dinner. Don’t miss the crater lakes if you go up there and the lavatubes.

Of course there’s the reef, and quicksilver leaves from Palm Cove wharf everyday or you can do a sea kayak tour just after sunrise on Palm Cove beach (which is our beach just 400m up the sand).

For gardens check out the botanic gardens in Cairns at the Centenary lakes, or for something really inspirational drive up to Cape Tribulation, the rain forest is awesome and cape trib beach a green zone (can’t touch anything) is amazing as is the boardwalk near there. Wear repellent on the beach at dusk there are sand flies then.

Cascades, Mossman Gorge, the Barron River, fishing on the reef or up the estuary, helicopter, bungy cable ski-ing trailbiking, walking up Pyramid Hill, Sugar Mill tours, there’s just too much to mention!! Green Island.

A lot of the time we just like chilling out on the deck or the beach.

Have a great stay!!
